Island Tribe Expression Session 2010 Results
We thought you might be interested in seeing some of the pics from our Island Tribe Expression Session held over the weekend. Some of the top pics are available on www.wavescape.co.za and www.thebombsurf.com. The event was a huge success and even stole some of the limelight from the Mr Price Pro final! We had 15 guys in the water (1 heat only), surfing hard for 45 minutes, a real spectacle. Far more exciting than a 2 man heat in a conventional contest final. There were 3 prizes: biggest air, most radical maneuver and most powerful turn. R7000 for each winner.
Winners were from left to right: Greg Emslie (Most Powerful Turn), Beyrick De Vries (Most Radical Maneuver), Damien Fahrenfort (Biggest Air)
In other news.. Island Tribe is sponsoring kite surfer Kirk Hollis in his quest to kite surf from Sodwana, South Africa, all the way to Northern Kenya. He will then travel overland to Lake Turkana for some more kiting and make his way to Uganda. We gave him a brand new HD Go Pro on-board video camera to film the odyssey. The footage will be uploaded to the blogs he is writing for the worlds largest kite surfing publications (5 different mags), kiting websites, Mens Health Magazine, Out There Magazine, Go Magazine and of course our website. The footage is owned by Island Tribe and should get us some great worldwide coverage especially in the kiting world. He is unsupported and only carries a back pack with some real basic necessities. Will keep you posted on how to follow this crazy adventure.
ISLAND TRIBE EXPRESSION SESSION AT MR PRICE PRO
Thursday July 8, 2010- The Island Tribe Expression Session is a great addition to the 5 Star Mr Price Pro Ballito, giving surfers even more to compete for at this year’s R1 Million event.
Throwing in an extra R21 000 in prize-money, with three separate R7000 prize cheques for the biggest and most radical maneuvers, South Africa’s most progressive surfers along with some top internationals, will be enticed to pull out all the stops with high risk moves not normally seen in mainstream competition.
“Expression sessions are always a fun, they give you the freedom to just go for it without worrying about losing a heat,” Greg Emslie said. “The fact that Island Tribe are throwing in 21K is a bonus and will give surfers a great opportunity to take home some extra prize-money.”
Spectators can expect show- stopping performances as surfers eagerly throw caution to the wind, attempting ‘new-school’ moves like rodeo-flips, superman’s, double grab aerial reverses and more, the sky being the limit!
Unlike normal competition where you have two or four man heats, the Island Tribe Expression session will see ten invited surfers go toe-to-toe in pursuit of the lucrative prize pool, without restriction for the number of waves ridden or how many attempts it takes to complete a new move.
The Mr Price Pro Ballito will culminate on either Saturday or Sunday depending on conditions and the Island Tribe Expression Session will take place just prior to the Final.

Afritrex Update 19/02/08
Its been a week of long hard travelling as we?ve left the sahara behind for now and find ourselves relaxing on the beaches of Senegal and Gambia soaking up the atmosphere, sunshine and amazing welcoming people who call this place home.
We entered Mauritania after going against all we?d been told and expected to do by entering both Nouhadibou and Nouakchott (warnings on the FCO website and the cancellation of the Dakar Rally have meant tourists are few and far between!) and staying with very welcoming hosts in both cities.
These were difficult parts of Africa for us as they?re very strictly religious and the sale of alcohol is strictly governed! The heat of the desert, the dust and the madness of the cities were something I?m really pleased we got involved with and have made a real impact on both of us.
Once we?d made it to the relative safety of Senegal and spent 3 days there relaxing in the company of Ibou and his friends who make up a djembe group called Lamp Fall. Very well known in the country, their names are all over the shops, taxis, buses and lorries, they were incredible hosted and treated us to fish grills, music and the pleasure of meeting their families everyday?.how many kids can you have?!?!
It was hard to tear ourselves away but we did and are currently having our first day in The Gambia, our first English speaking country since the UK. Again a really easy place to get on, the smile is the way of life here and rightly so, the country?s fertile, the ocean is the source of wealth and food and everyone seems happy! More of the same please.
Been running in the mornings and exercising as much as possible and trying to keep on top for the next challenge in SA!!
Hope all is well with you wherever you are, keep smiling J
